Can Anyone Suggest Some Safe Toys For My Chinchilla’s To Play With?

Filed in Category Safe Toys

A difficult one, as some chins will try to eat anything whether it’s edible or not! Try going to a local carpet store, as they often have long tubes that can be cut up and chins will use them to run through and gnaw. Other alternatives are getting untreated blocks of pine, so they can chew their way through them – try a local wood yard. If you can get them cut into shapes it will convince your chin that they are getting something new (and destructible!)!
Although it is more expensive, toys on offer for parrots are often well received, but you may need to remove any rope or other materials if your guys are inclined to at it. I go through Chinchillas 4 life to access good priced chew toys that are safe. Loofah balls and toys go down well with my guys, these can be bought from many pet stores.
Straw nest boxes and balls are great when they come out for their run, and they can last for a fairly long time. I have a nylon ferret tunnel, bought from a local pet store, but have to watch the boys carefully as one is more inclined to eat the nylon! Metal kebab holders are great too, as you can hang a variety of chew toys on them and make it look different every day!
The website is www.chinchillas4life.co.uk and there are others available.

my chinchilla used to love big drain pipes to run down when out, also loved cat balls, he was more interested in playing hide and seek with my daughter who was one at the time, he used to run behind the settee then out the other side and squeak at her when she got near he would run the other end and repeat it, ask at your pet shop for toys for rabbits or chinchillas, it is not something they generally stock but will get them in if needed, best of luck honey.

I am so glad you asked this question! Here’s a few safe toys that are great fun and cost anywhere from free to a bag of dog food.
    SAFE TOYS:
    1. Hay Manger: Better than the hanging hay balls, because our chins love daily, fresh hayhttp://www.americancart.us/pet_chinchill…
    2. Hammocky Hammocks- this is the ONLY cuddle spot/toy my chin has not managed to chew to bits. The shipping is worth it and I highly recommend this product. http://www.hammockyhammocks.co.uk/
    3. Apple wood chews. A lifesaver for my expensive leather furniture and a treat for Luna (my chin), that keeps her teeth in great condition (a win-win situation, even if she goes though a pack a week).
    4. Cardbaord- they chew, they love, they demolish! Only color-free and chemical-free cardboard is safe. Paper-towel and toilet paper rolls are great fun (AND FREE), but the ULTIMATE indulgence is a “critter castle” ($30- form Bunnyluv.com, a chinchilla owner, believe it or not)!http://www.bunnyluv.com/buncritcas.html
    5. You: Also Free: Lay on the floor and chins often love to jump and sniff on the giant.
    6. A ladder, bridge, or see-saw. I am currently looking into how to buy or build one, but here’s great interactive cage that incorporates the idea:http://www.the-white-pages-of-chinchilla…
