ALL puppies should go to training classes. The puppies love it and it makes for a happy dog and owner when you have a well behaved dog….no matter how intelligent the dog is!

You should tell her to reconsider before buying this dog if she honestly thinks that toys are untrainable. Any dog can be trained and I had a Shih Tzu and I didn’t train him and he became a little home wrecker.
If she doesn’t even think she can train the dog why is she getting one in the first place?

Definitely train all dogs.
We’re in the midst of training our 4 month mini Havanese- she’s 3 lbs now and shouldn’t be more than 6 lbs. She’s extremely smart. After 3 weeks w/ her, she’s completely paper trained, knows how to fetch, and knows “no”, “off”, “sit”, “lay down” and still teaching her more-
The first couple weeks, she would rip up her pad and play w/ it. And we could tell when we’d come home to a mess, she didn’t like sitting in her own ruins either. I think dogs are in a much better/healthier state of mind w/ proper training.

They are completley trainable, I believe all dogs should be trained. Tell her that toy dogs tend to bite a lot, so it needs to be bite trained. It also needs to be house broken, that is a kind of training. If you want it to listen to your commands, it isnt going to be born with that ability. I have a toy breed and she is very well behaved because I trained her from the start.

well toy breeds are a little more dificult to train but difficult dose not mean you can not train them it may take longer and more hard work but it is very so possible and because toy brreds are more”high mainnence” training will definetly make the dog a better more loveable companion .. so you might just want to tell your friend that you can train them it does take longer but it will make him/her more obidient and less high maintnece such as needing attention every second and bitting /barking wehn does not get attention or when some one leaves or comes in the door these can all easily be fixed.. remember when talking to your friend to be sympathatic sho he/she does not tihnk you hate the og and you want it gone but show your friend youa re really putting their best intrest first….hopefully i helped

It’s necessary to train any breed of dog. Just because they are smaller and cute doesnt mean they don’t need proper training. Trust me, I was ignorant with my first dog and thought she was too cute to need training. She turned out to be a hellian and would not listen to me for anything, she ended up getting hit by a car because I was too stupid to train her properly.

Sigh. All dogs need to be trained. All dogs are trainable. The only people who say toy breeds aren’t trainable are the ones that want a possession, not a dog.
Your friend know nothing about dogs, and should really be rethinking this decision – or else that dog is going to be so poorly behaved that even she won’t like it. And then it will probably end up in a shelter.
