How Do You Minimize The Rubber Smell From Dog Toys?
Filed in Category Dog Toys
My dogs generally don’t like chew toys that smell strongly of rubber, so they avoid playing with them. I just bought one at the pet store but didn’t realize its strong smell as it was sealed in plastic. They are not even touching it. I already opened the package so I can’t return it. Is there a way I can remove its strong rubber smell or at least reduce it so my dogs will take an interest and I won’t feel like I wasted 15 bucks?
(Please don’t suggest I rub peanut butter or other food items on the toy, because that’s just a temporary fix that won’t do much to take care of the smell. Thanks.)

I noticed that, too, with a rubber tug toy I bought my dog – he took one bite of it then looked at me like “Ewww”. I’d try soaking it in some soapy water – maybe even stick it in a pillow case and run it through your washer. I’ve noticed with toys like this the smell often dissipates so maybe it’s something you can soak off. But then again, you may end up with it tasting like soap if it’s porous.
Course the better option might be to just return it – especially since the dogs won’t be too disappointed since it’s not something they’ve been playing with.
dont buy rubber toys… get rawhide bones…
but keep in mind, not all animals need a toy…
