How Many Parents Do All Organic Food And All Natural Products? If You Don’t, Do You Feel Guilty?
Filed in Category Organic Toys
I live in Southern CA and feel like i’m hammered constantly about organic this, all natural that.
I do some of it (some foods), but not everything (cleaning supplies, products, toys, sheets, etc) all natural and organic, it can get really expensive, so I just choose the ones that are important to me.
Does anyone else ever feel guilty about it? I think i feel it because we have so many health conscious crazy people here.

Oh yea! I’m not even in CA, I have to believe it is much more pressure there than on the East Coast. I have gone all organic on as much food as possible but then I have had to cut those out as the costs are too prohibitive for us. Even at stores that have generic organic. The only item I will buy is organic milk. For me with the amount of milk that kids makes that a must purchase. I am concerned more about the hormones and steroids that are used on animals, than products.
Sometimes I do wonder if its propaganda for buzz words to increase sales and charge more. You know that whole “green” label. Other times I’m not so cynical.
It CAN get expensive. That is why there are alternatives (you can make your own cleaning solutions at a low cost)
I grow my own fruits, spices, herbs and veggies myself so I save a lot of money just by doing that.
It’s also not a bad thing to be health conscious crazy…consuming pesticides and growth hormones are doing serious damage.
That is why so many kids are starting puberty early and people are having every kind of cancer imaginable.
***No, I’m to scarred to do organic, theres been more outbreaks with organic (because they are chemical free) so nothing kills the diseases***
That’s simply not true darling.
I try to buy what I know is most important.
One is cleaning supplies. In particular, rug cleaner (remember John Travolta’s guilt over his son’s Kawasaki Disease on Larry King?) Overall, I don’t think you need to buy all-organic everything. But if you can do it, do it. It’s easier than ever.
With regard to food….organic matters…but the thickness of the skin and whether the item grows above, on, or under the ground matters. Only the first should be eaten if not organically grown…such as citrus, bananas, etc. There are certain exceptions with particularly poisonous pesticides, particularly those on grapes and cotton. (We don’t usually EAT cotton, though…except cottonseed oil…so I am not really sure how much we get from clothing.) Potatoes, strawberries, etc. grow on or underground, so go for the organic…. The organic label is so popular now that I almost wonder if everyone is telling the truth about their products (?!) For example….I give my baby Earth’s Best Organic formula. But, then I read that the DHA products (from fungus and algae) are extracted with hexane. How organic is that? What does the organic label even mean anymore??
I am like you and chose what was important to me. I don’t like harsh cleaning supplies, so I switched to “green products”, and use less paper good products. I do want to help protect the Earth, but it is costly to my wallet at times.
As far as food goes, we don’t eat meat. For my family to eat all organic would cost too much and be too many monthly grocery shopping trips. There are certain fruits and veggies that I prefer organic, but it wont stop me from purchasing non organic. My thought is if it has a peel, it doesn’t matter if it is organic or not. There is a great chain of grocery stores in our area that has a lot of organic and inexpensive produce and meat. Fresh and Easy. The only down side is their lack of selections.
I don’t feel too guilty about it. I do what I can and try to teach my son respect for the environment and to eat healthy (how many 2 year olds do you know that LOVE broccoli? lol)
All natural is very important to me in the early years. I myself avoid processed foods, so why would I feed them to my son?
I use organic dairy, and hormone/antibiotic free meats (mostly, sometimes if a sale is too good to pass up, i think a lil bit is better than all).
Because not all fruits and veggies are created equally in the pesticide world… I buy certain things organic, but not others.

toys, sheets, etc. i do my best, i got quite a bit of organic clothing and bedding from my shower, and thats great. but i wouldn’t have shelled out the extra cash. i look for sales and clearance online for some organic cotton clothes.
Don’t by into it. For starters, almost all organic food has no greater nutritional value than “normal” food. Second, there are no legitimate studies that show negative effects for a lot of these chemicals and things that are constantly portayed as “dangerous” or “unhealthy.” Basically, the whole fad is just that: a fad. Mommies who have too much time and money on their hands make up new things to worry about, and the rest of us pay the price.
My siblings and I have never had anything “organic” or “natural” and we’re healthier than anything. I recently completed a half-marathon (13 miles!) and can count the number of times I’ve been sick on one hand.
Just trust your mommy instincts, and your kids will do just fine!
I’m 16 and live in Northern California. My mom and I buy only organic, whole, or natural foods and things like non toxic environmentally friendly cleaning supplies. When buying clothes I try to buy things made of organic cotton. My dad and brother on the other hand will buy all sorts of garbage (soda, prepackaged food with loads of preservatives, sweets, meat that isn’t grass fed or free range, seafood).
Organic food isn’t very expensive where I live so being environmentally conscious has been made easy for us fortunately.
I can understand trying for natural foods and drinks, I intend to do that. Not necessarily always organic, but definitely more natural foods and less preserved, canned/boxed/flash-frozen crap.
However I think the “green” toys, clothes, sheets etc is just a marketing scheme and bit excessive. I haven’t seen anyone grow up healthier because they wore all natural clothes.
I don’t feel guilty about the sheets and cleaning supplies, but I do feel guilty when I feed her jarred baby food. I usually always make her food myself, but a car and an ambulance knocked out a power line the other day, and we lost power for hours. I couldn’t make it for her, so I used store bought stuff…felt so guilty.
I dont do anything organic. I tried the organic cleaners and i hated them. im a mjor clean freak and i feel like they just didnt get the job done. As for foods, I dont do organic foods. I was raised on the food that was put in front of me which was none organic and im not gonna go crazy trying to eat organic. It may be healthier for but for me it cost way to much money. So no i dont feel guilty.
baby foods have higher standards than our food so there is nothing to worry about for non organic baby foods dont fill guilty millions of people have been feeding babies regular baby food and they have turned out perfectly good. Its only been recently that the whole organic rave has even come to be.
I completely understand what you mean. I do the same thing pick and choose which ones that are important to me. I would love to do more but organic and all natural are so expensive.
I don’t really feel guilty because I am doing something which is better than nothing.
No, I’m to scarred to do organic, theres been more outbreaks with organic (because they are chemical free) so nothing kills the diseases. We do gerber babyfood because they are a KNOWN name, and we do bleech for cleaning products.
Haha, I am the exact oppisite I buy the cleaning suplies, the blankets, towels, clothes, etc. But I don’t feed my kids organically, its gross… they eat veggies, fruit, and some sort of meat or fish or something. LOL. To each there own.
I don’t buy organic, and I don’t feel guilty. I do have a veggie garden in the summer and it is all organic, but I’d go broke buying only organic stuff.
No i don’t feel guilty for feeding myself and two children non organic food. I do think it is a positive . But no i don’t feel guilty.
I use organic foods. But everything else? No. All the added preservatives and chemicals have so many hormones. I don’t want my babies to grow up too fast.
I did all real homemade foods with my son and I feel a little guilty that I don’t do it with my daughter. Life gets hectic though.
I do MOSTLY organic food and all naturals, not all but most. Maybe it’s not the best plan, but it works.
nope i dont care one way or the other its just a fad that i dont have time for
