What Are Some Homemade Dog Toys I Can Make?
Filed in Category Dog Toys
Im getting a new dog and i think that spending like $10 on a dog toy is ridiculous. I will be buying dog bones, without a doubt. But what are some playtime toys i can make?

dogs like homemade dog beds, you can just use old fabric from your clothes or blankets, and sew a circle bed about 2-3 times the size of the dog. Stuff with old pillow filling, and get yourself a new pillow. They like the stuff that smells like you.
Also, a tennis ball inside a sock is a great toy. Ball, sock, two favorite things that dogs like, and you can make that in about three seconds.
When you get groceries, ask the butcher if he has any large bones. Roast them in the oven to cook a little, then let them go for it.
Our dogs love apples, as a toy and then a snack, or dried banana chips. Get those at a bulk food store for people, and they are cheaper.
My dog loves it when we sit under the willow tree and i weave little wreaths that he uses as a frisbee and then a chew toy. Free. Bunny likes them too.
Dollar stores sometimes ahve good deals in the pet aisle, but steer clear of the food stuff. They have chew toys, and these great little rope and cloth frisbees. Any stuffed animal is a good toy, and you can get them used for a quarter a piece at a thrift shop. Dogs really don’t care about price, so you can get creative. They just mostly want you on the other end of an odd sock. Attention is their favorite toy.
One of my dogs favorite toys was an old cotton sock with a knot tied in it. If there is a dollar store in your area, you’d be surprised at the neat dog toys they have! $10 would buy a bunch!
You can get toys at the dollar store, or sometimes Target has sales for dog toys instead for pretty cheap! Otherwise, you can use an old sock and put a ball at the end and then tie it at the top.. or they like ropes that have knots in them.
hope i helped!
if you have some fleece fabric you can braide three pieces toand that makes a great tug toy.http://www.xcergy.com/ebay/dog_toy/sherp…http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=h…
Well, go to a fabric store and buy some colored fleece. Green and Red for Christmas or even blue and white for Chanukah. Braid the felt together until it is about 8 to 14 inches long. Then give to your dog! They love these because they can play tug with them, and it also is soft and easy to chew…soothes sore gums!
Each strip of felt should be about .5 to 1 inch wide, but if you have a very small dog, make sure your strips are thin, and if the dog is very large, you should make the strips about 4 inches and then fold it in half length wise to make it thicker as well. Good luck making dog toys!
1)go to the hardware store
2)buy tuff but thin rope
3) cut the rope in 3 long pieces
4) braid the rope
5) find a way to tie the rope at both ends
make the toy on the dogs size
big dog big toy
small dog small toy
rope cost about 3 dollars
and i use fishishing line to tie the ends so it dosnt fall apart =)
Try tying old towel strips into knots.
Stuff a men’s tube sock with a replacement squeaker (available at petsmart) and stuffing from the craft store. Stuff it REALLY tightly and sew it together.

Your dog will tell you. My young dog likes yogurt containers and old socks – so I cut a hole in a clean dry yogurt container and threaded an old pair of socks through that, and tied in a knot.
My 6 yr old dog, though, would not ever play with a thing like that (too noisy; too big) He likes a discarded leather glove that he’s ripped the lining from. Crazy but true!
It depends on how big and strong your dog is. Smaller dogs are fine with home made toys like stuffed canvas or fake fur but larger dogs will take those apart.
You can find inexpensive toys at Walgreens for $2/each or at discount stores. You can get rope cut to length at hardware stores and knot the end to prevent fraying although rope toys are really inexpensive at Dollar Stores or at drug stores so it may not be worth making them.
Tennis balls are always good and very inexpensive as are cardboard boxes to play in and tear up but not to eat. Soft fabrics are easy for a dog to put a canine through and rip up but you can try some old denim from jeans knotted into balls.
Plastic water bottles (empty) are fun for some dogs but they are really noisy.
I buy my dogs toys. That way I know they are made for dogs with the right materials.
