What Is A Safe Finishing Oil For Baby/children’s Handmade Wood Toys?

Filed in Category Safe Toys

I am looking to make out of exotic wood, not sure which one will I use, Baby and toddler toys for my 2 children. Can anyone recommend a safe finishing oil. Keep in mind babies and children like to put toys in their mouths….and if it is not safe…I won’t use….also, is there such a thing as an organic finishing oil that is safer???? I will appreciate your input!!!! Thanks

food safe mineral oil – need to apply multiple times and then every 3-6 mo of heavy use or so, it is what they use on kids table and chairs, some chew wood toys, countertops and cutting boards also I dont think organic would be safer but if you can find it go for it. It is really nice to sit and rub it into something while watching a movie or talking, just my always pregnant point of view.

Mineral oil. Been used for centuries. Remember anything a baby can pick up is going to get put into it’s mouth. It’s a hand to mouth existence for the first couple years. http://www.woodfinishsupply.com/butcherb…

Any of these type of product will work for your applicationhttp://www.rockler.com/search_results.cf…
Keep in mind, you do have an alternative to oil – a couple of those in that link dry to a hard finish – and are ‘food safe’ after drying. Also – If you are using ‘exotic’ woods, you may need to check on the toxicity of those particular woods.
