The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, known locally as the Toy Railway due to its narrow gauge of 2 feet (same as the Welsh Ffestiniog Railway) runs 55 miles between New Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling and was opened in 1881.
The usual fare on the through service is 42 Rupees single for Second Class, 247 Rupees for First Class.
The daily through train departs New Jalpaiguri at 09.00 (Train 1D, arrives DJ at 15.30), or you can leave there at 08.30 on Train 3D, arriving Kurseong at 13.10, then change onto Train 9D, a steam train, which leaves at 15.00 arriving DJ at 18.00.
